Who discovered the internet? What is internet?

Today, where internet has become a major center from business to banking, education, communication, technology and entertainment, it has become very difficult to imagine life without internet in today’s era. Where internet has given solution to many of our problems today, it has also given birth to many new problems for us.

What is internet ?

Internet is a network of many computers connected to each other which connects any computer in the world through router and server. In other words, to exchange information, the connection established between two computers through TCP / IP Protocol is called internet. Internet is the largest network in the world.

Who owns the Internet?

Everything has some owner, but if we talk about the Internet, who is the owner of the Internet or who has the monopoly on the Internet, then there can be two answers to this question.

  • None
  • A lot of people

1. Nobody here means that no one is the owner of the Internet, and no country or any country’s government or company holds any kind of monopoly on the Internet. It means to say that no one has complete authority over the Internet.

2. From another point of view, thousands of people and organizations own the Internet. The internet consists of many different bits and pieces, each with an owner. Some of these owners can control the quality and level of access to the Internet you have. They may not own the entire system, but they can affect your Internet experience. For example “Internet Service Provider Companies”.

History of Internet?

It is said that necessity is the mother of invention. This thing fits perfectly on internet search. The history of internet is not very old. During the Cold War in 1960, there was a need to exchange information secretly at a very high speed.

To fulfill this need, a network was discovered using technology, which we know today as the Internet. If we talk about who discovered the Internet, full credit cannot be given to any one person.

Who discovered internet?

Many people had a hand behind the discovery of the Internet. During the Cold War, Leonard Kleinrock first planned to equip the US Defense Department with a new technology. According to this plan, information was to be exchanged by connecting many computers together, so that the army could get the necessary information very quickly.

MIT supported him in building this network. Scientist J.C.R. Licklider and Robert Taylor. Who proposed to make a “Galactic Network” of computers in the year 1962. On which continuous work was going on.

And in 1965, another M.I.T. Scientist developed a method of sending information from one computer to another called “Packet Switching”. Packet switching used to transfer data by breaking it into blocks or packets.

This technology was first introduced by the Advance Research Projects Agency (ARPA) of the United States Department of Defense. Because of which it was named ARPANET. NCP ie (Network Control Protocol) was used to connect one computer to another in ARPANET.

On October 29, 1969, the first message was sent through ARPAnet by writing “LOGIN”, which was partially successful and the data of the first two letters of the message “LO” was transferred.

By the end of 1969, only four computers were connected to the ARPAnet, but the network continued to grow throughout the 1970s. In 1971, it added the University of Hawaii’s ALOHAnet, and two years later it added networks at University College London and the Royal Radar Establishment in Norway.

As many computers were connected to this network, it became difficult to integrate it globally. The first email was sent by Ray Tomlinson in 1971. As its benefits came to be known, its use kept on increasing.

Father of Internet?

By the late 1970s, a computer scientist named Vinton Cerf had begun to solve this problem by developing a way for all the computers on all the mini-networks in the world to communicate with each other. He called his invention the “Transmission Control Protocol” or TCP.

Later, they added an additional protocol, known as the “Internet Protocol” (IP). In the Internet we use today, only TCP/IP Protocol is used.

In 1974, Vint Cerf and Robert E. Kahn published a paper known as “The Fathers Of The Internet”. Vint Cerf is called the father of the Internet because of publishing this research paper.

When did internet come in India?

Internet in India was started on 14th August 1995 but publicly it was started on 15th August 1995 by “Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited” i.e. VSNL. Then internet was used to exchange important information and its speed was only 8-10 kbps.

When the internet was started in India, only 20-30 computers were connected to it and the cost of internet connection was also very high, and the monthly cost of internet at 9-10 kbps speed was around 500-600 rupees, which was around Rs. It was too much for the time.

Whereas in today’s time internet has reached in the hands of every person and from studies to business, medicine, technology, government works etc internet is being used.

First website on Internet?

The first web page on the Internet went live on August 6, 1991. It was dedicated to information on the World Wide Web project and was created by Tim Berners-Lee. It operated on a NeXT computer at the European Organization for Nuclear Research.

The address of this first web page was http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html. Which was similar to the image given below, and is still live today.
